Potato Hills. The old time way of growing potatoes. What about all the space saving benefits of the new way of doing potatoes? From trash cans to wire or mesh buckets; there are innumerous ways to grow potatoes. This happens to be my favorite.
Space saving is a must for any small homestead or patio garden. What success have you had? My success with potatoes has been our homemade potato hill boxes. The space that was wasted after putting in our small green house was the perfect candidate. These DIY potato hill boxes offer tons of continuous natural nutrients to your soil.
My buddy went right to work building Mommy some amazing boxes. They use the space that went around the structure of the interior greenhouse. He took some old left over rough cut 1x12 planks of wood, some screws, and a skill saw. The result are fantastic and he is so proud. At only 11 years old he completed the task with perfect geometry skills and skill saw execution.
How do you like the results?
Simply cut the 1x12 to the length of the space. Add a small 1x1 to the height of 12" in the corners for stability. Screw together. Fill with soil and done. These can be used to plant anything in. From flowers to veggies. And used and customized for any space. Have fun and get creative!
