You know, there are times when I am just floored by the Greatness of God! In my secret time of the wee hours this morning I became in awe of Him yet again. Not in the meaningless babble of repetitive flattering words or in fear to please a master. I am overcome by the simplicity of His relevance.
My prayer today looked like this...
Try to add together all the pebbles of sand on all the earth, the vastness of it. Gathering it all together in your mind on a massive beach next to the sea. Knowing that out of all those small pebbles, He sees you. He picks you out not as one of the a million in likeness but one of high value. Like a miner who treasures the vein of gold found out of the ginormous mountain range. My God, my Jesus, looks upon me and He looks upon you with excitement. You are the 'X marks the spot' on His treasure map!
Seriously! I had this playing over like a video while I was trying to pray (accept it was me I saw, not you;) ). So, I took the hint and just went with it. My prayer turned into a WOW session. I could not ask for anything or worry. It was like I had no needs and I was aware of nothing else. All I could do was try to breathe. He had me in His presence and I was awestruck.
He has bragging rights over me and He has bragging rights over you! I can see it now...
As He is enthralled in the excitement of all His children, He fixes His attention on you. He calls Michael over with a proud puffed out chest while beaming with radiance in His smile as He tells Michael to look upon you. In that moment Michael is blown away in awe by the delight he sees in the face of the Creator who, out of all the vastness of the universe, singles you out with the pride of a Daddy.
...His bragging rights are astounding and He chooses to brag on you!
He will blow your mind too. Do you wanna see how He blew my mind for the first time years ago? Watch this video below. I promise, you will never look at God the same way again. (not affiliated in any way) You will never look at the pebbles in the sand the same way again either, your welcome. Have a super blessed week you guys :)
"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not hastily broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
Let your marriage be tied with God's knot. The two of you may defend for a little while but with God, there is not enough time in eternity to wear down the strands He ties.
I wanted to share this with you. It was writ by Perry Tanksley. I hope you enjoy.
I ask that every marriage of these that trust Your knot will withstand the ploys of this world to destroy what You see is good. Every wife will honor her husband with respect for his authority, with joyful submission. Every husband will love his wife as You love Your church, giving himself for her. That they have exhilaration and satisfaction in one another, in honor giving preference to one another. Thank you for the joining of every covenant marriage You have given. You are good. In Your great and Awesome name, Jesus The Christ! Amen!
Ladies, do you want to transform your marriage? This is the key point in scripture that will give you the wisdom to do so. We have talked before about praying for your husband...you can find that post here...which is vital to a strong marriage or a marriage that needs the LORD to move. What I am about to share is just fascinating to me, something that is so good it can't be kept under key.
We are going to take an Eastern mindset to the scripture Genesis 2:23.
To put things in context, we are looking at the writ account of Adam waking up and seeing Eve at his side for the first time. Remember, Adam was brought all the animals and plants and birds of creation to him to name and find a suitable helper; none were found. So, a deep -as in depth like the ocean- sleep was placed on Adam by God and a "rib" was taken to create Eve. This is a blessed picture I think. Man was created in God's image, Hebrew root word dam meaning blood, as in related by blood. Later, woman was created out of the man to be a helper and a companion. Now to our scripture, writ from a Eastern mindset reading...
"And the human said, this one is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh
Here is a quick word study to understand how the ancient Hebrew woman would read this scripture:
Bone of my Bones...Bone is the Hebrew etsem. The root word is eyts meaning a tree. These two words in connection would bring on the meaning that the bones are the tree of the body, the structure. Eyts can also have the meaning to counsel. The meaning of Bone of my Bone to the ancient Hebrew woman then becomes yo'eyts; she is the counselor, in the sense of support and firmness, the tree as structure to her husband. How cool is that!
Flesh of my Flesh...Flesh is the Hebrew basar meaning the skin or the meat of man (or animal). It is also used in Genesis 1:4, 2:3 "to proclaim that it was good". The idea was to proclaim good. This idea and word is found in much of the old testament with the sacrifice of the flesh of a slaughtered animal to proclaim good news, like a babies birth for instance. Here, the same idea is held. Adam was proclaiming that his flesh was used and proclaiming that Eve was good. What a love relationship!
Because...because of this; because this was. Because is the connection word kiy. This is a very ancient and primitive word not used much in the modern Hebrew. The word can also be rendered since. Since of this or since this was, as in being bone of my bone.
Lets put this all together in a way, say Sarah, would have understood this verse.
"And the human said, 'this one now at last; is a support in firmness like
Often times, the change starts with us, the wife, his bride. We can not expect our husbands to be the man we want him to be if we are not being the wife we were created to be for him, literally. To have a great husband, he needs to have the structure and support and counsel that he can proclaim is good! Just as Adam did over Eve, be the wife he needs so he can be the husband you need. Have a major blessed week ladies.
New year, new years resolutions. Do you guys have any? I found it funny that a poll I once found said that new years resolutions are the biggest money makers for a gym, March and April coming in second as people want their beach bodies for the summer. I can't remember where I saw it, probably pinterest somewhere;). The intention is super duper great! Unfortunately, research polls say that 67% of gym memberships bought go to waste. That means out of roughly 131,700,000 memberships in the US, 88,239,000 go unused or out of the $21,800,000,000 revenue for fitness centers in the US $14,606,000,000 is wasted. CRAZINESS!!!
*If that is your resolution, please don't get offended, go get some, be a rebel and get'er done!
Lets not let these statistics be true for the Christmas spirit of recognizing The LORD Jesus. As the new years resolutions start to wear down and the sensitivity and tangibility of the holidays and celebration of Jesus Birthday start to fade, don't push Jesus off as a fad like the gym memberships.
I always read my bible through every year so my new years starts off with scripture. I always had since the birth of my Buddy, 12 years ago this year. This year though I have found the desire to not just read The Word through but I am journaling Him. Yes, it will probably take two years but hey, He is well worth my time:) I am super excited and have barely made it through to Genesis 3 but oh man is The Word good!
I want to wish a super happy new year for you all and may your blessings to The LORD be rich and full and make Him smile:)
The mountain shook, the sky became black and the veil between heaven and earth was rend, forever removed.
"Floods clap their hands, together mountains cry aloud before the LORD-YHWH"
The power of the blood of the One who holds all things together has rocked the foundations of His creation He so prizes with great sacrifice. All the super hero's of fantasy hold no comparison to ultimate super hero. What would posses Christ to even entertain such a thought of extreme anguish let alone the drive to lay aside His authority to do such a sacrifice? You! The very apple of His eye and His deepest desire and love. You, the crown of His glory. To be with you, the one He adores and fights for. You, His treasure. Nothing else carries greater worth to the God of all than you. The sacrifice He was ready with intention to accomplish, even if need be just for you. His cross, it changed everything!
The relationship between husband and wife is the one relationship that demands the most attention and is the one that is lived day in and day out. *1 The relationship that scripture gave us that reflects the relationship that we have with the LORD. *2 The first relationship we humans were given with one another. The relationship also that demands the most accumulated work. I know there are specific things in our homes that need prayer. Even specific situations in all relationships. We do not have the power to change situations but we do have the power to change our heart in a situation and to prayer over the heart of those involved. I would like to share with you one of the most powerful prayers, I believe, that I pray every morning...over my husband...before my feet even hit the floor. (All the _____ is where you insert his name.)
"I ask that You, LORD Jesus- Yehshua Ha Massiach- will be enthroned upon __________ heart. _________ will always love You LORD, our God, with all of his heart, with all of his soul, with all of his mind and with all of his strength and that he will love his neighbor as himself. Keep _________ heart soft and loving towards me and mine towards him, always finding exhilaration and satisfaction in one another. Help my heart to not be defensive but that I may love him the way You love him. May we be convinced that Your thoughts of us are thoughts of peace, not evil, to give us a future and a hope. That _______ heart be wise and his emotions discerning, that he will make Your heart glad. Let our minds and our marriage not be conformed to this world but being transformed and renewed by Your power so that our marriage may prove what the will of our God is; that which is good and acceptable and perfect." (if you have children) "Keep _______ heart knitted to (children's individual names) and teaching them with fervent desire for You."
Everything stems from a heart issue. Praying over the hearts of the ones we love is so pivotal. We can not be lined up with the LORD if our hearts are not His, totally and completely! Our LORD wants to be intimate with us. Make your prayer intimate with the power of scripture. Lets see what our Great God-YHWH delights to do for you and your husband. If you are single, start praying over his heart now, even if you don't know his name, the LORD does:) Please share what the LORD has done, I would love to hear your testimony!
*1 Marriage=Christ and the Church: Ephesians 5:22-32 (31-32), 1 Corinthians 11:3
*2 leave your mother and father and cling to your wife: Mark 10:7, Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31
So, my babies and I were doing their Bible Study this week and one of the days was on Mark 4:3-20. As we were discussing the questions they answered, this little twist hit me that I never thought before. My babies said I should share it with you. So hear it goes:)
Okie Dokie...it is the parable of the farmer sowing seeds...(link above)
Farmer obviously=the Believer
Scattered Seed=our testimony about the Word
Gravel=those that hear but don't care
Thorns=troubles that come and take away emotional response that never set in their heart about salvation or the "Sunday Christians". The ones who sadly attend church as fulfilling their religious obligation, they may have head knowledge but no fruit.
Good Soil=the true Believers who produce fruit
It is like circular pattern you see. The farmer is the fruit bore from the good soil of another farmers life. The seed that was scattered represents the life of the Believer. You see, in Ancient Israel, a farmer didn't put his seed 6-18 inches apart in the rows like we do in America. He would just take a huge handful and throw it from side to side, not really caring where it landed. The more seed thrown, the more chance at a greater crop. This is our testimony. We should not be selective on who we share our Savior with, putting all our ducks in the row and hoping that they were the best seeds to cultivate. No! We should scatter our testimony. Not caring where it lands or who hears it but sowing the most seed for the greater crop.
A wise farmer knew just when to scatter his seed. He could decipher when the rains would come and he would plan on planting his seed with perfect timing. It was an art to know how long before the rain to scatter the seed, too far before the rain and the wind would blow the seeds away while the sun would scorch them. But too close to the rain and the seed wouldn't have time to settle in the ground as so the rain would wash it away. Rain=Holy Spirit in scripture. And this too is our testimony. We are to be so skilled and close to the Holy Spirit that we can decipher when He is going to come and that is when we scatter our seed liberally.
If you have ever been around planting time, you know the birds are always waiting on a easy meal. It is no different with the enemy. He prowls around looking for the easy meal of those who have seen the Lord in your life and heard truth from your lips. But the birds/enemy swoop in on the easy prey of those who hate the testimony of the Lord and steal it away. These are those off the gravel. There are those who have an emotional connection when they hear of salvation but the trials of this life and the hard times choke out the life of the seed planted cause there was no deep root connection in the heart. These are the thorns.
Finally you have the good soil. These are those that the farmer scattered and received as a greater crop. This fruit of his crop produces his own seed and goes out to plant his our field. One testimony producing seed for another and than another. Multiple fields being planted. But we still are not the cultivator, just the farmer-the planter-the sower. It is the rain or the Spirit that cultivates.
It is my belief that if we just do our job as the farmer than we would have a greater crop. I have been trying to remember more lately "to do my job" as my Buddy learned in football at a young age. Just as it isn't everyone's job on the field to be the quarterback or to be the line backer or the wide receiver cause there still needs to be a good line to hold back the defense. Everyone doing their job makes a strong team and that is how games are won. Too, it is my job to spread the seed of the Word of truth and live my life as the testimony of that truth. That is all. It is the Spirit's job to cultivate and grow that seed and He most certainly will do His job, so to be a strong team, I just need to remember to do mine and not His;)
I commit to you this week to try better to be a good team mate and do my job. I pray you will as well and share with me your job well done:) Have a fantastic week!
This weeks I wanted to share with you guys a commentary and word study on Psalms 91. This very infamous Psalm is quite amazing. It gets even more amazing with word study. Now, the scripture in the English language is in no means wrong! Our language is just not equipped with the beauty and color of the Hebrew (or Greek) that the Scripture was originally writ.
The English language is actually only about 1/3 the content of the Hebrew and Greek. In short, we don't have as many descriptive words to describe things. For instance: In Greek there are over 7, some say more if looking in the Ancient Greek, words used to describe love...Agape=unconditional and selfless love, Storgae=love of family, Eros=erotic or lustful love, exc...In English we say love for everything...I love my car, I love pizza, I love my kids, exc.
Also remember that English is more descriptive as Hebrew is more functional language. Therefore, if the Bible were writ into English using the functional Hebrew (or Greek) word for everything, Scripture would be so long, no one would want to read it. Thus, we do word studies.
note: this is also where our different translations come in. The different translations simply use a different English word for the functional Hebrew or Greek word of the passage. I currently have 11 English translations of Scripture on hand and 8 Hebrew and/or Greek Scriptures (not including what you find on the internet).
On to Psalms 91...For your convenience I included a link to the non-word study Scripture here...
"He who lives in the shelter of the Most High will stand in the protection and cover of the Almighty.
I will say to Adoni-LORD-YHWH; my security and immunity and my barrier, my Elohiym-Creator-God, in who I trust and hope.
For it is He who delivers you from the temptation, tricks, decay of the hunter and from the deadly epidemic, infection, virus, disease.
He will wrap you up with His barrier and restraint and under His wings you may seek-be after fortification-guard-refuge; His fullness-devotion, constancy, truth is an absorber and stronghold-protection-security and support.
You will not be discouraged or stunned or perplexed of the shock-dread and immense fear by night or of the indicator that flies by day;
of the virus-infection-disease that stalk in darkness or the devastation that arranges loss and decay-misuse at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand-power but it will not access you.
You will only look on with your eyes and see the return paid back of the wicked and evil*.
For you have made Adonai-LORD-YHWH, my refuge, even the Most High, your home location of purpose and function.
No evil* will happen to you, nor will any disease-widespread epidemic-influenza come near your tabernacle-His dwelling place.
For He will give His angels claim concerning you, to protect and defend-like a bouncer-chaser for you in all your ways.
They will withstand and soldier on with you up on their hands, that you not strike your foot against a stumbling block.
You will tramp on the lion and cobra, the young devourer and the evil spirit you will over whelm and injure.
Because he/she has loved Me, therefore I will hand carry and transport him/her; I will prearrange him/her immovable and fixed on high because he/she has made famous-is familiar with-celebrated-avowed My name-character.
He/She will scream-shout-whoop-call upon Me and I will answer-react-reply to him/her; I will be with him/her in unrest-distress-badness-concern-dilemmas, I will rescue-save him/her and honor him/her.
With an extended life I will please and gladden him/her and let him/her see-view-witness My preservation-restoration-salvation."
*evil:rah: wicked, mischief or not doing what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it and how you are supposed to do it.
This really brought new light into my prayer life. I pray it does you too. Remember, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there is no way to give it justice in a short blog. If you want more in depth study, I would suggest you google Bill Cloud or Shoreshim Ministries. He is a phenomenal Hebraic Roots man. Have a fantastic week and I will see you again next Monday:)
Naomi, the mother-in-law of the all famous Ruth. We learned last week the character of Ruth and how extraordinary she was. But the question still lingers, why was she such a woman of excellence? As Aristotle said:
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit"
Behind every infamous and extraordinary person, there is a person behind the radar of their infamous qualities. The shield bearers: those who go before the ones called; training them, advising them, coaching them, counselling them, shaping and steadying them into the person they are. I will put before you that this is just the part Naomi played in the character of the extraordinary Ruth.
It takes and extraordinary person to train and extraordinary person. In the general jargon of excellent people, it is a trait that is learned. Few come by this trait naturally. In my years of Martial Arts, this was very evident. A subpar fighter could not train a champion fighter, only a champion fighter has what it takes to train a champion fighter. Assuming from what scripture gives us, I would like to infer to you that Naomi was the example of excellence that Ruth modeled. Using the process of deduction, lets look at the woman Naomi.
It takes a strong woman to submit to her husband.
Ruth 1:1 displays an incredible insight into Naomi. Literal translation: "He went to live in the fields of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons." The wording used leads to think that Naomi fallowed her husband. She submitted to his role as head of the family and went with her husband. A wise woman will fallow her husband, willingly putting him first, displays her true love in his heart. The act of Naomi fallowing her hubby showed abandonment and his place in her heart. Perhaps learned from the example Naomi had lead, this will also prove to be a trait that Ruth exhibited, submission (fallowing) is it's purest form.
That same character is brought through Ruth 1:6-17. Literal translation: 7. "and she went out...her two daughter's-in-law with her" 8-9 "go each return to the house of your mother...and they wept" 10 "and they said to her, surly we will go back with you to your people" 11-13 "turn back my daughters...turn back" 14 "and they wept again" 15 "Orpah kissed her mother-in-law but Ruth cleve to her" 16-17 "you turn back after your sister-in-law...Ruth vowed, do not impinge-take away my right- from staying with you (beg me to leave you)". Naomi was wise and thoughtful to not hold her daughters-in-law to going with her to a foreign land where she knew they would be outsiders. But there was something about this woman that caused pagan woman to fallow her away from their culture and family and friends to be with her. Orpah eventually returned after much arguing about it, but Ruth would not leave Naomi. She had to be with her mother-in-law who seemed so excellent herself that she had become her mother.
Ruth 1:19 "when they came to Bethlehem, all the city was moved because of them". The word used here, moved, was only used 5 other times in the Hebrew Scripture or the Old Testament...Deuteronomy 7:23, Ruth 1:19, 1 Samuel 4:5, 1 Kings 1:45, Psalms 55:2, Micah 2:12...keep in mind the 20/20 rule; read 20 verses before and 20 verses after to gain context. Transliteration: huwm: meaning confusion, stirred (moved), shout, uproar, distracted, noisy. Notice here they don't seem to acknowledge Ruth but it is Naomi that they are stirred about. They couldn't believe their eyes, she was back. It says something about a person if an entire town can be excited about that one persons return.
A little clarity on "She said to them, do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has witnessed against me and the Almighty has afflicted me?” -Ruth 1:20-21. This Hebrew word for bitter, Mara or marar, has a very unexpected twist in one of the meanings...it can also mean strong. What!? Remember, in the Hebrew culture and language, words are meant to have function. It could be argued then that when Naomi said to call her bitter, she was saying yes, that the Almighty had dealt sadness to her and had answered her(Hebrew transliteration anah: alluding that she had sked the misery not happen) and the answer had broken her; but that she acknowledged it had given her strength or made her stronger at the same time. Another trait we see Ruth display in willingness to glean the fields, broken yet strong. Also see Romans 5:3-5 and Romans 8:28-29
[Also note here that she did not change her name, she is still referred to as Naomi, she was making a statement about what happened when she was gone to the people of Bethlehem.]
Ruth 2:19 Naomi had interest in Ruth's day. Ruth was not just the wife of Naomi's dead son, keeping her around to have a part of him. Naomi loved Ruth as her daughter, clearly displayed by their relationship.
Wisdom and guidance. The remaining of Ruth 2:20-4:13 we see Naomi guiding Ruth on what she was to do in a proper and honorable manner. The wisdom that Naomi guided Ruth by was acknowledged by Boaz as the reason she so outdid herself and thus winning his heart. Ruth 3:9-11
Finally, Naomi was rewarded by Ruth's love and respect of her. She was given the honor of being the nurse or "nanny" to Obed, her restorer of life, refreshing of life. Transliteration shuwb: her answer to the question asked in 1:20-21 and her recompense payment (really shows the LORD's providence in our hurt that His ways don't make since in short but in long they mean everything, even if they do seem to crush us). Also Obed was the sustainer of old age, her security.
I pray your week is blessed!
Oh yeah, real quick, will you let me know if you like me inserting scripture link for you? Does it help or is it an annoyance? Thanks guys!
The daughter-in-law of Naomi, an Ephrathite woman from Israel, but a Moabitess herself; Ruth enters scripture as the wife of Mahlon the Ephrathite and shortly there after, his widow. for more on Moabites and their origin visit here The Moabite history isn't so compelling, it's actually a very controversial history. In short, when Abram's nephew Lot was saved with his two daughter's (could have been granddaughters, we can do a study on that later), they fled to a cave while Sodom and Gomorra were being destroyed. His daughters thought they were the only ones left on earth, dramatic I know, and got there father drunk and had children by him. The one's son was named Moab and he became the father of the Moabites. The Israelites and Moabites didn't exactly get along. The Moabites were a bit of stinkers to the Israelites on their way to the promised land.
Non the less, Ruth was exceptional. And this is where our study begins. Ruth is one of my favorite woman of the Bible and is so very intriguing. She has many attributes that make it easy to see why she was given the great honor of being the Great-Grandmother of King David himself and in the lineage of The Massiah, Christ Jesus-Yeshuwa Ha'Massiach. Lets delve into this complex and captivating young woman of history.
