This weeks fitness was short but sweat;) Always remember to warm up real good and stretch, stretch, stretch after. Enjoy!
Please remember, I am not a doctor or licensed trainer so please, consult a doctor before under going any fitness regimen.
Today I worked on basketball with my Beautiful. Aside from running up and down the court chasing her so she could work on intense game like layups, I did some kick boxing. I worked on forward lunges with a jump knee drive up and down the court. Next, I did forward lunges with a back leg front kick down the court and walking backward lunges back up the court. Third, forward walking lunges with back leg round kicks down the court and walking backward lunges back up the court. Next, forward walking lunges with back leg side kicks and since they are my favorite, I did those down and up the court. Lastly, I finished off with front leg jump kicks of front kicks, round kicks and side kicks. Loved today!
Today we went shopping but I didn't feel bad about not working out cause we walked over 4 miles. So it's all good;)
I did about 3 minutes of kip-up burpees and then spent the afternoon painting our cabin. My arms definitely got a good workout.
Thanksgiving! If you call cooking a workout then I killed it;) Yeah buddy!
Today I felt very sluggish from the sugar so I did a little extra to try and sweat it out. I started off with sprints with my babies in the snow. Yes, we got snow last night, score! Our driveway is exactly .1 of a mile so we did sprints down as fast as we could, we had to race of course...and I lost:( I can't beat their long legs. Then we jogged back and immediately turned around and repeated the process five times. My babies went inside and did some yoga while I did this zuzka 5 minute workout. I finished the third set in the video.
I fallowed this by a power yoga flow for abs and stretching.
It looked like this:
On a yoga mat I did candle pose into a plow pose hold for a good 10 seconds to stretch my spine so good. I rolled down back onto my bottom with my feet under me into a low squat and jumped into a plank. From there I did a competition pushup up into plank. Then a side plank dip on each side, another competition pushup and jumping into a squat to roll back onto my back. I repeated this 10 times. Honestly, I sweat more on this than I did with everything else;)
Tomorrow, I may do a quick cardio in the morning to help push all the sugar I ate through. I can't have much sugar. I am allergic to yeast and sugar activates the yeast I do have in my system and make it feel like I had yeast, yucky! I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving! Let me know what you do to detox after a big meal, I would love to know!
As always, I am not an affiliate with Zuzka, I just love her workouts so I share what I love.
A super happy Thanksgiving from our turkeys ;) May your day be filled with thankfulness that lasts the whole year!
Even though the first national Thanksgiving was proclaimed by George Washington in 1789 and not celebrated officially until Abraham Lincoln in 1863, well after the Pilgrims in the Plymouth Colony celebrated in 1621, this was not the first thanksgiving recorded in our nations history. It was 1540 when Francisco Vasquez de Coronado conducted a thanksgiving in the Texas Panhandle thanking God for the success of their voyage. Then on Dec.4, 1619 on the James River in Virginia, the Berkeley Hundred deemed this day after landing in the New World as a yearly and perpetually kept Holy Day of Thanksgiving. Everyone in our beautiful country has had reason to give thanks to The Lord. May we continue this tradition. Many Blessings to you on this Blessed day:)
Hello every one! I pray you had a fantastic week thus far and are ready for a safe weekend. Here is what my week looked like, fitness wise. I didn't have very long workouts some days but I did give them everything I had. I was active as well for the whole week outside of my training, mostly wrestling with my Buddy. Enjoy!
*Remember, I am not a licensed personal trainer or health care professional. Always consult a professional before you start any physical activity, especially those listed on this blog. Proceed at your own risk*
Today I did a cardio jump rope circuit. It was simple but affective, I was soar for a few days in my calves and my hammies. What it looks like...
Jump Rope High Knees
1 minute rest: air squats with a hip thrust going onto tippy toes at the top, squeeze the coconuts with a 2 sec hold
Jump rope butt kicks
1 minute rest: plank on either elbows or full plank. I put my feet on hand rags (can do paper plates for carpet) and slid my feet out while on my toes in the plank into a split position or as far as you can go while maintaining perfect form. Then feet back together. Slow and controlled here while keeping back straight and in neutral spine position.
Jump Rope Hops (from one foot then the other as quick as possible)
1 minute rest: air squats with a hip thrust going onto tippy toes at the top, squeeze the coconuts with a 2 sec hold
All Jump Rope, Jumping Jacks and Wacky Jacks are for 1 minute. There is not rest in between. The static exercises are your rest period. This is a 12 minute routine but will feel like 40 minutes on the treadmill. The way I like Wacky Jacks here.
Today I did a Zuzka 5 minute workout. I didn't have much time today. My Buddy had a wrestling tournament that we had to cut school short for. This is why I love her 5 minute workouts, no excuses, 5 minutes is doable. I loved this one...totally went on my favorite board! I was able to do roughly 6 burpees each time (I think 8 on the first set) and 9-10 side plank kicks each time, each side.
Today was yoga training day for my Beautiful so I jumped in with her. Stretching is just as important as your fitness and a vital part of training. If you don't take care of your muscles, they will break down and cause injury. Here is her yoga regimen, or jumpers yoga, she does twice a week on her rest days...she is training to dunk...We did it through x2. While she does her visualization, leaves out the weird stuff I promise, I did foam rolling focusing on my spine and neck and hammies where my injuries have been.
Today I did another Zuzka 5 min workout. This one is another one of my "go to" for a good warm up. Computer is having a brain fart and wouldn't load the video so click here for video, sorry. I did this workout as a warm up today fallowed by Form-Boxing for 13 min. When I do my Form-Boxing I use 2 lb dumb bells. Form-Boxing, that's what I call it anyway, is done in the mirror with slow and controlled movements focusing on your form and end power. What it looks like...
With 2 lb dumb bells:
In a good fighting stance with left hip forward, (slow and controlled) do a left jab for 20 sec then a right reverse punch for 20 sec. Switch sides where right hip is forward, take a 10 sec rest. Repeat with right jab and left reverse punch. Switch back and forth, don't forget the 10 sec rest each switch cause you will need it, for a total of 2 times on each side and a total of 3:30 minutes.
Without dumb bells:
With left hip forward do left jab and right reverse punch as fast as possible, with good form, for a full 30 sec. Switch side and immediately with out rest do right jab and left reverse punch as fast as possible, with good form, for 30 sec.
With 2 lb dumb bells:
In a good fighting stance with left hip forward, (slow and controlled) perform a front hook for 20 sec then a right upper cut for 20 sec. Switch sides where right hip is forward, take a 10 sec rest. Repeat with right hook and left upper cut. Switch back and forth, don't forget the 10 sec rest each switch cause you will need it, for a total of 2 times on each side and a total of 3:30 minutes.
Without dumb bells:
With left hip forward do left front hook and right upper cut as fast as possible, with good form, for 30 sec. Switch sides and immediately with out rest do right hook and left upper cut as fast as possible, with good form, for 30 sec.
Still without dumb bells:
Put it all together...Left hip forward and as fast as possible (with good form) left jab, right reverse punch, left hook, right upper cut. Continue for 20 sec. Switch sides and rest 10 sec. Right hip forward and as fast as possible (with good form) right jab, left reverse punch, right hook, left upper cut. Continue for 20 sec. Switch back and forth, don't forget the 10 sec rest each switch cause you will need it, for a total of 2 times and a total of 3:30 minutes.
Today I did a butt and leg workout since my arms are still dead from yesterday;) This is what it looked like...
25 arm circles forward
25 arm circles backward
25 wrist circles forward
25 wrist circles backward
10 neck circles to the left
10 neck circles tot he right
10 hoola-hoop hip circles to the left
10 hoola-hoop hip circles to the right
10 standing knee circles to the left
10 standing knee circles to the right
30 standing pendulum leg swings, back and forth =1
100 jumping jacks
30 standing pendulum leg swings, back and forth =1
100 jumping jacks
30 standing pendulum leg swings, back and forth =1
100 jumping jacks
Butt work out: repeat x3
Bridges with back/shoulder blades on a stability ball:
x12 bridges with a resistance band around knees. As you go up to squeeze coconuts also spread knees out till resistance band it taught. Back down. Repeat x12.
x12 bridges with a 8 lb medicine ball between knees. Squeeze medicine ball the whole time with a 2 sec hold at the top of each bridge.
x12 one leg bridges (Left leg) with a front kick at the top of the bridge on the non stable leg. ie...with left foot fully on the ground and shoulders on the stability ball, place right toes on the ground, barley touching. Go up into a 1 leg bridge keeping the weight on the left leg. At the top of the contraction on the coconuts, do a front kick with the right leg ( weightless leg) kicking with the heel and hold for 2 sec. Then back down and repeat x12
x12 one leg bridge (Right leg) with a front kick at the top of the bridge on the non stable leg. Repeat above on Right leg x12
Remember, the closer your heals are to your butt but never knees over toes, the more you work the coconuts. The farther your heals are from the butt, the more you work your hammies.
There ya go, this is what my week looked like. As always mentioned, I am not an affiliate of any one on here. I just like the effectiveness of the workouts that I mentioned in the videos. Again, I am not an affiliate with any person or program mentioned! Let me know what you think:)
So, the first quarter of our first school year has come to a close. Man, how it went by so very fast! The change I have seen in our home has been astounding. We are starting to get a hang on things, working out our schedules and how things flow the best. We have chosen a year round school year so that we can really focus on studies and making sure our learning is concrete...I say we and us because I am learning so much along with the kids. I am a firm believer in understanding is knowledge. I despise regurgitation of facts just for a grade or to maintain a schedule or busy work, what a total waist of time! I LOVE what Michael Jordan says:
Knowledge should be the same way. Learning is not regurgitating shallow facts to get a letter grade. Learning is being shown something you didn't know before in a way that it changes your life. I am firm in learning as a life long journey.
Thus, we have taken on what I am calling "the Michael approach", my babies are also avid basketball players so it works for us. I would rather my babies be able to walk into a museum and see the displays alive in their minds. To be able to carry on a conversation with details about subjects. Not be board wishing rather to play video games or watch Netflix because there is no love for knowledge. In the last three months, it has begun:)
My babies have even physically grown, it's crazy! I'm not talking little normal growth spurts. I'm talking stress free, adequate sleep and good diet major growth here. Like inches...my Beauty has grown nearly an inch, at 14 (right at 6'3" now), and my Buddy has grown 1.2 inches (5'6" at 11) and a full shoe size, the big one is on it's way they say...in three months time. My kids are giants anyway but it is out of the ordinary for even them. The doctor even says our home environment has given positive effects on my babies physically. Yeah Buddy!!!
Lastly, my babies have come into their own persons. My Beautiful is so peaceful and joyful. Her countenance has completely changed. People outside of our family are seeing the difference. My Buddy has had a peace as well. He doesn't have a heaviness in his eyes or a defensiveness about him anymore. He isn't jumpy or frustrated constantly. They have begun to become their own persons without influence. I see the baby girl that I have missed so much come back. Her personality is starting to be unique and genuine and her choices are becoming exceedingly wise. I see the sweet boy that was so gentle and helpful return to us. A trust between mother and son is developing. And a young man who is a critical thinker with insightful discernment is immerging.
If you are a homeschooler, I pray encouragement and a renewed vision over you and your family. If you are in limbo, I would say to take the leap but one year at a time. You don't need to go full blown at first, ease into it and see where the LORD takes you. If you want to homeschool but have hindrances, press into the LORD, prayerfully seeking His provision. He will not falter.
"Be patient and in all things with prayer and petition before the LORD and thank Him for all he has done:)"
It was impossible for Eliazar to fulfill the task. But Eliazar prayed for YHWH-God to give him success and success He did. (Genesis 24) What on earth does this have to do with us? I'm glad you asked:) The Hebrew root word for success is tav: good. The rabbinical thought for good is doing what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it, where you are supposed to do, how you are supposed to do it. So, one way to look at good, aside from doing what is right, is obedience. Put it together with the Hebrew contextual word for successful is yatav: to be good. The rabbinical thought is not just to do but to be; to be doing what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to be, where you are supposed to be and how you are supposed to be.
So, what was the success of Eliazar, what did he ask the LORD-YHWH to do? He was asking the LORD-YHWH that He would make him be success. What a mindset. Think about it for a minute...if we were to think like Eliazar...success would not be doing something but being. Success would not be functional thinking but purposeful thinking. What is the success of you? You+success=the promotion? You+success= the position of CEO or employee of the month or student of the month? You+success=the funnest Mom/Dad/Aunt/Uncle/Grandparent? You+success= completing every task on your list in life. Not that these things are bad goals to have by any means. One of us could put ourselves in front of one of these scenarios, I know I certainly can for a few. But the good news is we don't have to in order to answer the equation of life...you+success=?.
Success would then be conditional on what we do or don't do, by works. And that is depressing, I fail all the time! We don't have to fail if we look at success as Eliazar did. All we do is be our best. That's it! As m I tell my babies when they practice or train, be your best and give it 110% and walk of the court or field knowing you left everything on it. Then you will be great! The first half of the equation a then becomes you+success=being your best.
Equation of life b then becomes success=?. Being. And being is: the presence of the Living God! Seriously look it up, the definition of being is existence and existence is having presence. True success is the subsistence of The Holy One! How cool is that...the literal support, the literal existence of The Creator-Designer-Originator is our being, our success. Breathe of fresh air!!! The measure of our success then becomes conditional on The One who can do all things, The One who can conquer any situation, The One who knows all already, The One who created it in entirety and The One who sustains all things. Take the weight off your shoulders:) As a Believer may this act as a fresh reminder.
Have a great week everyone!
I wanted to share with you guys this post from my instagram page from yesterday. (YaY, I'm on instagram now! You can find me at mylifestea.marie)
Thank you so much to all our country's veterans and active military. Because of you guys, and your families, we have continued to have the freedoms our remarkable and unique country has sacrificed for us to have...and The LORD instituted. For all you amazing warriors and your families:
"May the LORD bless you
and protect you.
May the LORD smile on you
and be gracious to you.
May the LORD show you his favor
and give you his peace."
Some times you just need some good old fashion comfort food. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a total clean eating supporter. But comfort foods can be healthy too, though obviously not as low in calories. My mylifestea-ism is that if you use real food, higher calories in moderation, then you are eating clean; example: butter in moderation=good/coconut oil=better/margarine=bad, sea salt=good/preservatives=bad. No, you don't want to eat high calories every meal but sometimes you just need it:) This was my need of comfort food and it was so yummy!
I made enough for 4 bowls but I should have doubled this. I had very sad faces when there was no seconds. In my defense, I had never made it before (I made it up) so I didn't know what the consensus would be and didn't want to waist food. Next time, I will make more...note: I don't measure spices, I just throw it in there so I did my best to guess how much I used, feel free to adjust...Here is my recipe...
Crockpot Taco Soup
1 pound ground turkey, beef, buffalo, elk, pork, chicken (I used turkey) or leftover shredded roast or brisket or chicken would also be yummy. Whatever you have lying around, this is the most expensive so if you can make two meals out of leftovers, go for it.
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp Flavor God Garlic Lovers...can use garlic powder
2 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Cheyenne Pepper
1 7oz can green chilies, chopped
3 cups water
1 package of noodles or 1.5 cups Jasmine rice or gluten free pasta, leftovers maybe?...old fashioned noodles in the freezer section are good or go gluten free with rice (add extra water according to instructions, about 1.5 extra cups) or yummy quinoa noodles (these should be pre cooked and added right before you serve)
1/2 cup heavy cream...optional...just makes it real creamy
1/4 cup Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese...optional...adds to the creaminess
diced fresh tomatoes
1.Put the meat, spices, chilies, water into the crockpot and put it on high for about 4 hours. Unless the meat are precooked, then you can put it on low for the seasonings to mix well. If using raw meat, you can crumble it as it cooks with a wooden spoon or you do it after it is cooked.
2.After the meat is cooked, this is the perfect time to taste the seasoning and see if you add any extra.
3.About one hour before you serve, add the noodles if raw or rice. If using already cooked noodles, add right before you serve. Adjust the amount of liquid that you want after the noodles or rice is cooked.
4. Ladle into the bowls and garnish with cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, black olives and enjoy:)
This weeks I wanted to share with you guys a commentary and word study on Psalms 91. This very infamous Psalm is quite amazing. It gets even more amazing with word study. Now, the scripture in the English language is in no means wrong! Our language is just not equipped with the beauty and color of the Hebrew (or Greek) that the Scripture was originally writ.
The English language is actually only about 1/3 the content of the Hebrew and Greek. In short, we don't have as many descriptive words to describe things. For instance: In Greek there are over 7, some say more if looking in the Ancient Greek, words used to describe love...Agape=unconditional and selfless love, Storgae=love of family, Eros=erotic or lustful love, exc...In English we say love for everything...I love my car, I love pizza, I love my kids, exc.
Also remember that English is more descriptive as Hebrew is more functional language. Therefore, if the Bible were writ into English using the functional Hebrew (or Greek) word for everything, Scripture would be so long, no one would want to read it. Thus, we do word studies.
note: this is also where our different translations come in. The different translations simply use a different English word for the functional Hebrew or Greek word of the passage. I currently have 11 English translations of Scripture on hand and 8 Hebrew and/or Greek Scriptures (not including what you find on the internet).
On to Psalms 91...For your convenience I included a link to the non-word study Scripture here...
"He who lives in the shelter of the Most High will stand in the protection and cover of the Almighty.
I will say to Adoni-LORD-YHWH; my security and immunity and my barrier, my Elohiym-Creator-God, in who I trust and hope.
For it is He who delivers you from the temptation, tricks, decay of the hunter and from the deadly epidemic, infection, virus, disease.
He will wrap you up with His barrier and restraint and under His wings you may seek-be after fortification-guard-refuge; His fullness-devotion, constancy, truth is an absorber and stronghold-protection-security and support.
You will not be discouraged or stunned or perplexed of the shock-dread and immense fear by night or of the indicator that flies by day;
of the virus-infection-disease that stalk in darkness or the devastation that arranges loss and decay-misuse at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand-power but it will not access you.
You will only look on with your eyes and see the return paid back of the wicked and evil*.
For you have made Adonai-LORD-YHWH, my refuge, even the Most High, your home location of purpose and function.
No evil* will happen to you, nor will any disease-widespread epidemic-influenza come near your tabernacle-His dwelling place.
For He will give His angels claim concerning you, to protect and defend-like a bouncer-chaser for you in all your ways.
They will withstand and soldier on with you up on their hands, that you not strike your foot against a stumbling block.
You will tramp on the lion and cobra, the young devourer and the evil spirit you will over whelm and injure.
Because he/she has loved Me, therefore I will hand carry and transport him/her; I will prearrange him/her immovable and fixed on high because he/she has made famous-is familiar with-celebrated-avowed My name-character.
He/She will scream-shout-whoop-call upon Me and I will answer-react-reply to him/her; I will be with him/her in unrest-distress-badness-concern-dilemmas, I will rescue-save him/her and honor him/her.
With an extended life I will please and gladden him/her and let him/her see-view-witness My preservation-restoration-salvation."
*evil:rah: wicked, mischief or not doing what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it and how you are supposed to do it.
This really brought new light into my prayer life. I pray it does you too. Remember, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there is no way to give it justice in a short blog. If you want more in depth study, I would suggest you google Bill Cloud or Shoreshim Ministries. He is a phenomenal Hebraic Roots man. Have a fantastic week and I will see you again next Monday:)
Hello everyone! So, this week has been very jam packed. We have had regionals for volleyball, just finished up divisions for football and now starting wrestling. Not to mention fighting off viruses, fevers and ear infections. Honestly, I don't know where the time to do it all came from...Oy-Vey!
It goes without saying, I have had very little time to do anything for myself in this crazy week. However, there are no excuses...as my Buddy says, "one day of not training can set you back weeks or months". Yeah I'm not training like the kiddos do anymore but I am an example. If they see me making time, they will make time; if they see make excuses, they will make excuses.
All of my workouts this week, accept Friday, were 5 minutes long. Here is how my week looked...
I chose this one for Monday to get my body in gear for the week...
I alternated the high knees for high knees, then butt kicks and then jumping jacks with the jump rope. *Also, for spinal injuries like I have, always make sure your hands are under your shoulders at all times and neutral spine period! This protects your C vertebras. Also, the pistol squats you can do holding onto a chair or by going half way down to sit in the chair instead of all the way down, if you are at beginner level.
This workout is one of my favorite ones. Really works and tones:)
I was feeling quite soar today, my neck was really hurting and I had bad headaches from it. So I thought today would be a good day for a little recovery so I did this yoga burst. Then I spent some time stretching and foam rolling before bed.
I was right as rain today after a good stretch and foam rolling. So this was my workout today. I just love dumbbell swings! I did full swings up like a cling to get my arms a little more. I omitted the weights with the jump lunges as it is too much for my neck, so body weight it was. The ninja jumps are AWESOME! Make sure you land proper on these in a good squat, no toes over the knees. If you can't then just step up instead of jump. They make you feel totally rad!
Today I did training with the kiddos. We ran about 2 miles. Then came home a stretched real good and finally, worked on take downs for wrestling with the Buddy for about 20 min before his meet.
As always, make sure you warm up good for at least 5 minutes to get your joints going, knees should not pop. A good stretch is crucial. I try to do yoga at least one day a week and foam roll before bed. *note: I am not a Dr. or licensed trainer. I am just sharing what I like to do and what has worked for me. Always consult a health care professional before starting physical activities. *note: I am not paid by Zuzka in any way, she doesn't know I exist. I simply have been fallowing her workouts for 3 years now and love her training. It is effective for me and short and sweet for a busy Momma. That is all.
So, I thought I would share with you guys my normal face mask/wash, DIY style. I have a very rare form of Rosacea that was caught in the inflammatory stage, very late stage and has forever damaged my skin. (I can't for the life of me remember what the Dermatologist called it, I was in a bit of a shock cause I went in thinking I had cystic acne and found out I had a rare skin condition and melanoma, so sorry about that. If I have a chance I will look back into my paper work to find it and update this post for ya.)
My skin is extremely sensitive to most topical anything, even the medical cleaners and pills and creams my Dermatologist proscribed I couldn't use. Very few things have I found that my face can handle and this is one is by far my favorite!
After seven years, yes 7 years, I have finally discovered what works for a facial cleanser that I can actually use with no side effects! I do this twice a week and it is so amazing. It makes my skin glow! Also helps heal scars. It is very simple. I get a small percaline or glass dish, like what you would put ketchup in for corn dogs, I know gross corn dogs and I don't eat them, just an analogy. *note: I am not a Dr. of any kind. I am just sharing what I have found good for me after exhausting and frustrating trial and error. Use common since if trying something off the internet.
Step 1. take two full strength aspirin and put them in the dish and then drop a few drops of filtered water on them.
Step 2. as that absorbs, grab a small 1/4 tsp of organic lemon juice OR if you prefer, as I do, 1/4 tsp of fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Step 3. take your finger and mesh the wetted aspirin down. Then pour the lemon juice in.
Step 4. in front of a mirror is best, dip your finger in the mixture and kinda scoop it up so you have lemon juice and aspirin on your finger. Very lightly spread it on your face. The above pic is what it will look like on your face, not too thick but not so thin there is nothing there.
*note: do not rub it on, this can irritate sensitive skin as the aspirin is course. Also, stay away from eyes.
If you have a zit or small abrasion on your face, it might burn, it doesn't bother me. But an FYI that it can.
Step 5: Wait until it is dry, maybe 5 min or so. You will know it is dry cause the aspirin will start to flake off. Then lightly rinse your face by splashing with water. Pat dry.
Your face will glow and it will kill any bacteria on your face while it dissolves all the old and dead skin cells. All without irritating sensitive skin. Enjoy!
Please do let me know how you like it:)
